When to Use the Dell Diagnostics

If y'all experience a problem with your computer, perform the checks in "Solving Issues" and run the Dell Diagnostics earlier y'all contact Dell for technical assistance.

It is recommended that y'all print these procedures earlier you begin.

Find: The Dell Diagnostics works only on Dell™ computers.

Outset the Dell Diagnostics from either your hard drive or from the optional Drivers and Utilities CD (also known as the ResourceCD).

Starting the Dell Diagnostics From Your Hard Drive

The Dell Diagnostics is located on a subconscious diagnostic utility segmentation on your hard drive.

NOTE: If your figurer cannot display a screen image, contact Dell.

Close down the computer.
If the computer is connected to a docking device (docked), undock it. Encounter the documentation that came with your docking device for instructions.
Connect the calculator to an electrical outlet.
Turn on the figurer. When the DELL™ logo appears, printing <F12> immediately.

NOTE: If you cannot run into anything on your display, hold downwardly the mute push and press the computer's power button to begin the Dell Diagnostics. The calculator automatically runs the Pre-boot Organisation Assessment.

NOTE: If you see a message stating that no diagnostics utility partitioning has been found, run the Dell Diagnostics from your optional Drivers and Utilities CD.

If yous look too long and the operating system logo appears, proceed to wait until y'all see the Microsoft® Windows® desktop. So shut down your computer and try again.

When the boot device list appears, highlight Diagnostics and printing <Enter>.

The computer runs the Pre-boot Organisation Assessment, a serial of initial tests of your system board, keyboard, hard drive, and display.

During the assessment, answer whatsoever questions that announced.
If a failure is detected, the computer stops and beeps. To stop the assessment and restart the calculator, press <northward>; to continue to the adjacent test, press <y>; to retest the component that failed, printing <r>.

Starting the Dell Diagnostics From the Optional Drivers and Utilities CD

Insert the Drivers and Utilities CD.
Shut down and restart the calculator.

When the DELL logo appears, press <F12> immediately.

If you wait as well long and the Windows logo appears, keep to wait until you see the Windows desktop. Then shut downwardly your reckoner and endeavor again.

When the Dell Diagnostics Main Menu appears, select the exam you want to run.

Dell Diagnostics Master Menu

After the Dell Diagnostics loads and the Principal Carte screen appears, click the button for the option you desire.

Option	Office
Express Test	Performs a quick test of devices. This test typically takes x to 20 minutes and requires no interaction on your part. Run Express Test first to increase the possibility of tracing the trouble apace.
Extended Examination	Performs a thorough bank check of devices. This exam typically takes 1 hour or more than and requires y'all to answer questions periodically.
Custom Test	Tests a specific device. You can customize the tests you want to run.
Symptom Tree	Lists the about mutual symptoms encountered and allows you lot to select a test based on the symptom of the trouble you are having.

If a problem is encountered during a test, a message appears with an error code and a clarification of the problem. Write down the fault code and problem clarification and follow the instructions on the screen.

If you cannot resolve the error condition, contact Dell.

Note: The Service Tag for your reckoner is located at the top of each examination screen. If you contact Dell, technical support will ask for your Service Tag.

If you run a test from the Custom Test or Symptom Tree choice, click the applicable tab described in the post-obit table for more information.

Tab	Function
Results	Displays the results of the test and whatsoever error weather condition encountered.
Errors	Displays fault atmospheric condition encountered, fault codes, and the problem description.
Assist	Describes the test and may indicate requirements for running the test.
Configuration	Displays your hardware configuration for the selected device. The Dell Diagnostics obtains configuration information for all devices from organisation setup, memory, and various internal tests, and it displays the data in the device list in the left pane of the screen. The device list may not display the names of all the components installed on your calculator or all devices attached to your estimator.
Parameters	Allows y'all to customize the examination past changing the test settings.

When the tests are completed, if you are running the Dell Diagnostics from the optional Drivers and Utilities CD, remove the CD.
When the tests are complete, shut the test screen to return to the Primary Menu screen. To exit the Dell Diagnostics and restart the figurer, close the Main Carte screen.
